Frostbite review

Frostbite

Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose…
It's winter break at St. Vladimir's, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy's crawling with Guardians—including Rose's hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn't bad enough, Rose's tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason's got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy's not taking any risks… This year, St. Vlad's annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.
But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price…
I LOVED Vampire Academy, so I have no idea why it took me from, like, August to now to read Frostbite. I guess I was a little worried that it wouldn't live up to the first book, that Rose wouldn't be as bad ass, that Dimitri wouldn't be as amazing, and that this new fella Adrian would just irritate the heck out of me. Because I hate obviously implemented love triangles.
BUT. It did not disappoint at all! It had all the action, if not more, that Vampire Academy had, and the same fast pace and gripping qualities. I swear I could not put it down for those last 100 pages. I also think that there was a lot of development in Rose, even though we didn't really see much of her and Lissa together or her and Dimitri together. Even though she could be a little immature, I do love her and her headstrongness, and the fact that she does things wrong, and the fact that she has self confidence, and the fact that she's very real.
Surprisingly, I also really liked Mia in this book. I knod of want to see more of her, because although she's kind of a bitch, she's way more than that, and we really started to get to see that in this book. And Mason, OMG MASON. I love him so much! The ending made me all weepy. I think Mead really got all the emotions down, and even though it was really fast, it was really raw and emotional and SO SAD D:
And Dimitri and Adrian, Dimitri and Adrian. Right, let's get this clear. I am still firmly in love with Dimitri, and I really don't think I'll be on team Adrian, like, ever. He seems like a nice guy, but no... Just... No. I can't imagine Rose being with anyone else. Dimitri just cares about her so much, and they're so cute together :3 Plus I loved seeing Dimitri and Tasha together, not as, like, and item, but because I liked seeing him more relaxed and less Super Serious Guardian Man! Which I think is his secret alias. Just saying.
I think I am sufficiently in love with Vampire Academy now. I think I need ALL OF THEM, LIKE NOW PLEASE. Yeah. They're just so good! Don't let the covers put you off like they did me! *Scurries off to find the nearest copy of Shadow Kiss*

  2. Mead DEFINITELY makes you emote in extraordinary ways with her series, since you grow so attached to the characters it's almost scary. Rose does a lot of flipping between growing and being stagnant, BUT by the end of the series, you will be so happy you read it. Rose is one of my all-time favorite heroines, and Dmitri is on my List of Favorite Guys. He's one of the YA hotties around, in my opinion.

It's been so long since I read Frostbite, so I'm grateful for the refresher :)
